From seven to one: WWTP consolidation
The new L'Eparse regional wastewater treatment plant, is being built in Payerne to replace seven existing plants. With a capacity of 42,000 population equivalents, it will treat the wastewater from 16 municipalities in the cantons of Vaud and Fribourg.
While meeting the wastewater treatment needs of the entire region, the new plant will significantly improve water protection. The biological treatment of the wastewater will use an alternating/intermittent nitrification/denitrification (A/I) process that anticipates future nitrogen discharge standards and reduces electricity consumption. Micro-pollutants will be removed by activated carbon filters.
