Following the 2021 floods, HOLINGER's Thun branch launched a groundwater measurement campaign in the Thun area. Disused measuring sites of the canton were reactivated and existing piezometers were equipped with loggers, which measure water levels and temperature every 6 hours.
The measurement data is being used for internal HOLINGER projects. For example, this data facilitates the estimation of the flood level for 10-year events, which is particularly relevant for infiltration systems. The 2021 flood was recorded at several locations. The lowest groundwater level which is relevant for groundwater heat utilisation can now be better estimated. Since then, there have been several follow-up tasks, such as the creation of a ground water model concept for the Canton of Bern under the direction of TK Consult AG.
