TRAINING AT HOLINGER

Job description draughtsman EFZ - specialising in civil engineering

Prerequisite: Secondary school leaving certificate (BE/AG/ZG/ZH), secondary school E (BL/BS), district school (SO)

Duration: 4 years

School-based training: 2 days/week in the 1st year of apprenticeship, 1-1.5 days/week in the 2nd - 4th year of apprenticeship or in teaching blocks

Final qualification: Federal certificate of proficiency in draftsmanship (specialising in civil engineering).

As a draughtsman or draughtswoman specialising in civil engineering, you cover almost the entire construction sector. The civil engineering focus means you design plans for the construction of roads, sewage systems, urban development and railways. But there is also some structural engineering, where the focus is on drawing load-bearing structures.

You will work with the engineering team on exciting projects, drawing and designing using modern CAD programmes. You will visit construction sites with the site managers to carry out measurements and as-built surveys. Then there will be support activities such as quantity surveying to get involved with and you should also gain an insight into detailed planning, i.e. the preparation of component lists for tenders.

Other specialist areas are also becoming increasingly important in our training programmes. So you may work on projects in the field of flood protection and hydraulic engineering. Examples include the planning and construction of dams, retention basins or renaturalisation projects. Or you can apply and consolidate your skills in the field of drinking water supply and wastewater technology. This includes projects for reservoirs and pumping stations or sewage treatment plants, rainwater basins or pipelines.

At vocational school, you will gain the necessary theoretical knowledge in maths and physics and along with a solid general education. If you take the vocational baccalaureate class, you will build the foundation for further education at a university of applied sciences or the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH)
